Winemaker NotesPol Roger, one of a few luxury Champagne firms still family-owned, was established in Epernay in 1849. Pol Roger owns 200 acres of vineyards, which provide about 45% of their needs. Pol Roger's cellars extend over four miles of winding chalk passageways on two levels. The second or deeper cellar maintains a constant 9.5 C (50 F), one degree lower than the first level and most others in the region. This lower temperature slows the second fermentation, encouraging a finer mousse or bubbles. Pol Roger Champagne also spends two to three times the allowable minimum in the cellar before disgorgement, or about three years for the non-vintage and up to seven for the luxury cuvées. The long, slow maturation contributes greatly to the complex aromas, which distinguish these superb Champagnes.The Brut Non Vintage blend is traditionally composed from about 30 to 35 still base wines, drawn from different vineyard sites, grape varieties and vintage years. Roederer Estate Brut, the first California sparkling wine produced by Champagne Louis Roederer, builds upon a 200-year tradition of fine winemaking that has made Roederer champagne among the most sought-after in the world. Roederer's winemaking style is based on two elements: ownership of its own vineyards and the addition of oak-aged reserve wines to each year's blend or cuvee. All the grapes for the Anderson Valley wines are grown on the Estate. Each year, the winemaker selects a portion of the best wines for aging in Center of France oak casks. Winemaker Notes Cristal is Louis Roederer’s flagship cuvée. It was created in 1876 and is composed of Grand Crus from the Montagne de Reims, the Marne Valley, and the Côte des Blancs. Cristal 2008 was bottle-aged for 8 years before being left to rest for at least 8 months after disgorging in order to attain perfect maturity. Amber hue with green and orange tints. Fine, even and lively sparkle. Complex and intense bouquet disclosing candied citrus, yellow fruit, Williams pear, pollen, and toasted almond. The textural harmonies pull at your palate with sweet, ultra-ripe fruit, while notable tannins provide the supporting structure to all this opulence. Jayson Red Wine is rich and fleshy, with mountain-grown Merlot at its core. Expressive aromas of crushed black cherry, mushroom, and leather lead to a ripe, focused palate of black cherry and black currant laced with mocha and toasty spice. Papillon fills the glass with an unmistakable dark crimson, a flash of neon purple and a ruby rim. Winemaker Notes La Chevaliere Chardonnay is a clear pale straw color. Strong citrusy aromas on the nose, with yellow-fruit richness. Bright flavors of ripe fruit; good balance and aromatic finish. La Chevaliere, or "the knight's lady," is a reference to "Mas La Chevaliere" which is literally the "farmhouse of the knight's lady," the Laroche winery in southern France where this wine is produced.

The 2021 Chadonnay hails from Napa’s southernmost AVAs, where wind and fog contribute to much cooler growing conditions. Lemon peel and green apple mingle with sea salt, beeswax, and linden flower. If you're a lover of big, dark, intense Pinot Noir, this Mercurey isn't to be missed! The Côte Chalonnaise village of Mercurey is home to a cadre of superb winegrowers making hearty, gutsy Pinot Noir without sacrificing structure or detail, and none of these growers is on a better roll than Gouffier. We often use wines such as this to "convert" aficionados of California Pinot Noir, as there's plenty of rich, spiced cherry intensity and a judicious kiss of oak. Organic.

Winemaker Notes Fine lace and silk are the words most often associated with this wine. Bright, intense colour and complex aromas evoking violet, black cherry and damp earth. According to the vintages, there are also notes of truffle and game. Refined tannins coat the palate. Good balance between texture and acidity. The 2021 Morgon Cuvée Corcelette comes from vines averaging 50-years in age, this vineyard suffering less reduction in volume than others due to the sandy soils. It is aged in used barrels for around 9 months. It has a quite compelling and complex bouquet, with raspberry and wild strawberry, rose petal and light chalky scents. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, finely chiseled and lending tension. The acidity keeps this taut, focused, and quite minerally towards the leaner-than-usual finish. There's moderate length with fine salinity. Bon vin.

Winemaker Notes Foillard's Morgon Eponym comes from the Charmes lieu-dit, one of the highest parcels in the appellation. In contrast to the grandiose, deeply structured Côte du Py and silky-smooth Corcelette, this cuvée features a bit more crunch with lots of bright acidity and a leaner, more mineral profile. It nonetheless shares the satin texture of all Foillard Morgons, and should age similarly well for those willing and able to wait.

TOP VALUE & UNDER THE RADAR The new generation arrived in 2010 with the arrival of David & Arnaud, following on from their father/grand-father. Roland first bottled his own wines in 1979 and the domaine has gone from strength to strength in recent years. Vauprin is a special selection on the hill of Vauprin, situated close to Lignorelles. Vines range from 20-80 years old and the parcel is 1.8ha in size. This AP Chablis is notable for the confident way in which oak is used (up to 50%, ranging from new to five-year-old). Lovely density on the palate allied to purity of fruit. Here, the oak really does add a lot of complexity but the Chablis character is still evident underneath. A very fine Chablis.

This vintage from Jean Paul and Charly Thévenet tastes classic, earthy and old-school, It excels in the role of the quintessential, naturally made Morgon of dreams.

Winemaker Notes An outstanding wine. Pale yellow color. Complex floral nose of white lilac and white rose. Once open, fruity aromas come to the fore, evolving towards grilled hazelnut and almond. When the wine is more mature, the nose is surprisingly strong and fifteen minutes of aeration produce wonderful notes of white truffle, citron, honey and nutmeg, elegantly meshed together. Very lively on the palate. Its rich texture is in evidence, but also its structure and minerality. It is round, but never heavy. Harmonious fullness in the aftertaste".

Winemaker Notes An exceptional wine. Beautiful, deep-red ruby color, with the bright sheen of great Burgundies. Intense and fresh nose for the young wines. Primary notes of red fruit dominate, such as Morello cherry (“griotte”, or wild cherry), raspberry, blackberry. There are hints of complexity with smoky flavors evolving towards licorice. When the wine is maturing, aromas of pepper, tobacco, humus and undergrowth appear. When drinking the wine, the first impression is always clear-cut and the texture fleshy. The body is firm without being rough, well meshed without being heavy. There is great freshness in the younger wines. With age, the wine gets rounder. It takes on “gras” (velvety texture) and a more precise architecture, supported by silky tannins. It is lively and refined at the same time. There remains a final and most pleasing sensation of harmony, fullness and delicate tannins, as the wine lingers on the palate.

The 2020 La Grande Rue is similar to the bottle tasted at the Grands Jours; ample red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit, fine minerality, quite "air" considering the growing season. The palate is medium bodied with supple tannins, fine depth, quite strict on the finish where one find a pinch of sour cherry and brown spices. Just needs a little more sustain on the aftertaste.

A slightly more elegant nose expresses aromas of honeysuckle, passion fruit, Asian style tea and cool essence of poached pear wisps. The caressing and highly seductive medium-bodied flavors possess a wonderfully sophisticated mouthfeel while delivering absolutely superb length on the balanced finale that has that element of 'presence'. They are rather characterized by a good acidity which supports the higher degree of alcohol of this vintage. The soft and silky tannins were already present in the musts and are the underlying characteristic of Guidalberto 2017.
